Isles of Scilly

28 miles from Cornwall’s Land’s End lie the Isles of Scilly, a gathering of five inhabited islands – and hundreds of uninhabited ones. The Scillonian ferry makes the trip back and forth from Penzance on a daily basis, docking at St Mary’s, the largest island. Each of them – Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes and St Martin’s – has their own character, but all are surrounded by sea that looks like it belongs in the Caribbean, and pristine white sand beaches. Take boats to island-hop, visit seal colonies and hang out with puffins. Expect top-notch restaurants, cosy pubs and gentle clifftop rambles.
