The City has been at the heart of London since Roman times. Often referred to as the Square Mile, a nod to the boundaries that have remained unchanged since the Middle Ages, this is the centre of business in the capital. But in addition to skyscraper spotting – look out for the affectionately nicknamed Gherkin, Cheesegrater and Walkie-Talkie buildings – there are, of course, plenty of older sites to be explored. The Tower of London with its legendary ravens holds the Crown Jewels, and Tower Bridge is iconic the world over. Expect plenty of high-end restaurants and trendy bars with far-reaching views.
