The Shetland Islands Museum and Archives have an extensive collection of various aspects of island life. The Shetland Islands Museum and Archives is a five-star "visitor attraction" by VisitScotland, receiving an average of 86,000 visitors each year. The building was opened by Queen Her of Norway and the Duke and Duchess of Lindsey on May 31, 2007. At that time, the Shetland Museum and the Shetland Archipelago's extensive collections were brought together for the first time; the story of the Shetland Islands Traditional culture and fascinating stories and provide an unforgettable visitor experience. The Shetland Islands Amenity Trust Fund manages the service on behalf of the Shetland Islands Parliament.
