Cardhu was founded by Helen Cumming in 1811 as an illegal brewery and was licensed in 1824 as the first brewery officially started by a woman. There are two women: In 1872, the founder’s daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cummings took over the management of the distillery, hand-crafting the flavor and characteristics of whiskey as we know it today-relaxed, elegant, generous. The spirit is born of hard work and determination.
