The Kepies

The Kelpies are the largest equine sculptures in the world and you'll find them at The Helix which is located between Falkirk and Grangemouth,

The Kelpies attract people from all over the globe to marvel at their scale and beauty. 

The iconic strcutures are 100ft tall and weigh more than 300 tonnes each, these structures showcase incredible design and engineering. The pieces of art were created by artist Andy Scott and they represent the heritage of the heavy horse of Scottish industry and economy,

Tourists often asked what exactly a kelpie is. A kelpie is a shape-changing oceanic spirit of Scottish legend. Its name comes from the Scottish Gaelic words ‘cailpeach’ or ‘colpach’, meaning heifer or colt. Apparently Kelpies haunt rivers and lochs and normally take the shape of a horse.

You can visit The Kelpies free of charge any time of the day all year round due to their excellent location in The Helix community park. The area around the massive sculptures has been designed to give access for all, meaning everyone can come and see them up close. You can go inside a Kelpie on a tour for an exclusive look at their engineering and ingenuity. 

Cyclists should know that there is 500km of connected cycle paths. 

The Helix is also home to a new lagoon, cafe, adventure zone and splash play area.
