About
The original house site dates back to the 1600’s when the MacLeod Chief of Dunvegan employed a steward to manage his lands on Harris. In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie, led the second Jacobite Uprising which culminated in the Battle of Culloden in April 1746. It is documented that he arrived by boat at Donald Campbell’s house on Scalpay, where he stayed for 5 days. There are scenic walks, including the newly completed path to the lighthouse, (a must see) otters, eagles and seals are regularly seen. Although only 7 miles, the drive from Tarbert to Scalpay is one of the most scenic in Scotland - on a good day you can see the Cullins of Skye and the peaks of the Western Highlands. Midway between South Harris and Lewis, Scalpay is an excellent base from which to explore. Two days are not enough! There is an excellent Bistro on the doorstep, which will need a reservation - and the Isle of Harris Distillery is now open - all tours need to be booked in advance. Extensively refurbished, we offer romantic, relaxing, spacious, coastal B&B accommodation with views over the North Harris Hills and the harbours. Guests have at their disposal, maps, books, a beautiful garden that overlooks the North Harbour, and a large car parking area. Group bookings welcome, packed lunch bags £14 each (for 2 people). Guest fridge in Breakfast Room; Check-in is between 17:00 and 18:30pm - all other times by arrangement please; Check-out is by 10am, and we currently take UK cash or cheques. NB:ferry bookings in the summer months - some routes book up very early; make sure accommodation booked early as there are limited numbers of B&Bs; on the islands - we already have bookings for 2019. Sorry we do not take children under 14 years old or pets (except guide dogs). All guest bedrooms are up one flight of stairs. Cancellation.
Terms and Conditions: For any actual cancellation or no-show ….. • upto and including 14 days before arrival we request full payment • between 15 and 28 days before arrival we request 50% payment • between 29 and 60 days before arrival we request 20% payment (unless this already less than the non-refundable deposit paid)
