About

The Old Mill Inn is an AA 4 Gold Star Restaurant with Rooms in Brodie, a historic village in the Scottish Highlands. Our country setting, nestling on the banks of the Muckle Burn and near the renowned Culbin Forest, is a short distance from historical Brodie Castle and a brief stroll to the celebrated shopping destination Brodie Countryfare. Picturesquely located between Forres in Moray and Nairn in the Scottish Highlands, The Old Mill Inn is a perfect base for you to explore and experience all the magic of the “Scottish Riviera” known for its famously mild micro-climate, scenic sights and rich historical sites. On the doorstep of the world’s largest concentration of Whisky distilleries, the famous Speyside Malt Whisky Trail, and in easy reach of Elgin, with its historic cathedral, and only a 30 minute drive to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, there is something for everyone from outdoor enthusiasts to those looking to just escape to the tranquility and majesty of the Moray Firth.

Tracing its origin to more than a century ago, with its beginnings as a Victorian corn mill, today the Old Mill Inn blends character and charm with contemporary flair and modern facilities. Our five Guest rooms are situated on the first floor and offer a well-appointed variety of stay experiences and are available in 2 Categories of Our Superior & Classic Rooms.

The property boasts a highly regarded AA Rosette restaurant where Head Chef, Paul McKechnie, and his team of talented chefs have built a reputation over many years for creating innovative interpretations of fine Scottish fayre using the best of locally sourced ingredients from the Speyside larder.

Hosted by David and Sophie

After more than 2 decades of owning hospitality businesses and running large-scale events around the world – from Dubai to Delhi to Singapore and South Africa – Sophie & David decided to come home to pursue their dream of owning a charming country inn in the Highlands of Scotland. They are both very involved in the day-to-day running of the business as very hands-on Innkeepers!

When Sophie can get some time off from the Mill, she enjoys going for walks on the many magical beaches across the Moray Firth coast with Iona & Tiree their Cocker Spaniels. Sophie also enjoys travelling and seeing the most spectacular and remote parts of Scotland. She has a passion for food and works very closely with the Head Chef reinventing menus to add that unique twist to our food. She has also led the many upgrade and refurbishment works to the Mill ensuring a sympathetic balance between the charming traditional character and contemporary comforts.

Growing up in the shadow of the “Big Red T”, that stretches across Dennistoun, David left Glasgow to spend the past 25 years running international hospitality businesses across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. David regularly travels the length and breadth of Scotland experiencing all that is magical about our country’s inns, from Portpatrick in the south west to Unst in the far north of Shetland, and is always looking for new inspirations to improve the Mill. David is also a passionate Whisky collector and his focus for the Mill Malt collection is to house the best representatives from our most local distilleries – including brilliant drams from Miltonduff, Royal Brackla and Glenburgie.

Guest book reviews

“The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely incredible! We had dinner on both nights of our stay so managed to taste various dishes on offer, all of which were delicious. The breakfasts are beyond belief with home cured bacon, home made sausages, bread, preserves, granola and all other foods locally sourced, amazing! We loved it all."

Rhona

“First Class Stay-From the minute we walked in the door we were made to feel welcome. Bedroom was spotlessly clean with lots of little unexpected touches! The evening meal was exceptional only downside was we were too full to taste the dessert. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. Home made jam and marmalade with the toast and could only have natural yoghurt with granola honey and berries. Beautifully presented and once again very yummy and extremely pleasant gentleman serving breakfast. We will be back 10 out of 10."

Angela

“A must stay! Such a friendly and well run Inn. Everything was perfect with such brilliant added touches. The food is superb and the staff cannot do enough for you. We intended to stay for one night but decided to add another night it was so good. Will be back!"

Peter

“Perfect location and hosts, who couldn't have been more helpful or attentive. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. All home made and everything anyone could ever need to set them up for the day. Never had such a wonderful breakfast anywhere we have ever stayed in this country. Generally the food is totally wonderful. Liked it all. No complaints for Sophie and David, or towards any of the staff."

Davy

“The inn had been sensitively refurbished. Decor was tasteful and lots of little touches added to make the inn comfortable and welcoming e.g. small decorative flask of fresh milk for in room tea and coffee, ground coffee with cafetière along with instant. Staff were efficient, warm and friendly. Beds very comfortable. Breakfast included many in-house prepared components, such as homemade bread, preserves and muesli. Evening meal of a very high standard."
