About

Enjoy a stay with us!

Set right in the heart of Game of Thrones Territory, A relaxing holiday cottage nestled the river, Riverside Cottage at Logwood Mill offers the perfect cosy escape, with the sound of the rivers from every room in the cottage!

Here you can experience history in our lovingly restored watermill, sit beside the water in your private Lower River Garden, and fall asleep to the relaxing sound of Ballylinney Burn flowing just outside your window.

The Cottage:

Our family-friendly and pet-friendly holiday cottage consists of The ‘Linney’ Sitting Room, The ‘Millrace’ Kitchen & Dining Area, the ‘Bedstone' Double Bedroom and the ‘Crownwheel’ bathroom on the ground floor, with the ‘Hopper’ double bedroom on the first floor.

Each room is named after parts of a working watermill to reflect the cottages’ interesting history.

Riverside Cottage totally self contained, private, and is located in the East Wing of Logwood Mill, an 18th century watermill on the edge of Ballylinney Burn.

Since acquiring the Watermill in 2019 we have thoughtful restored Riverside Cottage, while retaining its gorgeous historical character, with family antique furniture, classical-style handmade furnishings, period paints and wallpapers, chandeliers, oak beams, thick stone walls and a stone arch through the kitchen - while also providing cosy and warm accommodation with all modern amenities.

The Rooms:

Our ‘Linney’ living room has everything needed to make your stay comfortable, with a comfy hand made L-shaped sofa, armchair with footrest and smart TV.

Both bedrooms are equipped with lots of storage space, antique dressing tables with mirrors, hair dryers, alarm clocks, and each with individually unique decor.

Our warmly decorated ‘Millrace’ kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, fan oven, 4-ring ceramic hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge freezer, coffee machine (with pods) and a dining table for 4. It is extremely well-stocked for cooking, baking, with all the standard crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils provided in addition to wine, sherry and punch glasses, ice bucket, cooking knives, bottle openers, espresso cups, herbs & spices, hand mixer, cake tins and baking trays, cake stand, cake plate and serving plates.

The ‘Crownwheel’ bathroom is decorated with lavish historic peacock wallpaper, and features an antique mirrored storage sideboard, toiletries, flannels, towels, hand wash, bath and shower.

Parking:

On-site parking is provided for up to 2 vehicles (with 1 additional space available for daytime guests.)

Amenities & Little Luxuries:

Upon arrival you will receive a welcome pack with home-baked treats, tea, coffee and essential groceries (milk/non-dairy alternative, bread, sugar, jam, butter, salt, pepper, oil), and cleaning & sanitising supplies. You will have the option to add a grocery pack (standard, vegetarian or vegan).

We also provide a selection of exclusive hand-made in Northern Ireland toiletries to use during your stay.

The Garden & Wildlife:

The cottage has a south facing private garden, the Lower River Garden, exclusively for your use. This is a beautiful place to sit and watch river ripple by under the shade of our old apple and maple trees, or perch with a book (or a strong Irish brew).

Located right by the river’s edge, the garden is equipped with BBQ grill, bench, patio chairs and table all for your use. From here you can enjoy the local wildlife; in addition to many squirrels (some of whom are quite friendly – especially Norbert!

We have families of ducks who nest on the river edge in spring, herons who like to come and look for food, robins who nest in the lower banks, and many other river and water birds. Hidden beneath foliage on the banks of the river are otters, who are nocturnal and quite shy but may poke their heads out in the evening if you are very quiet. Other nocturnal visitors include hedgehogs, badgers and foxes. The furthest end of the garden we sow with wild flowers but otherwise leave to go wild, in order to create a haven for local wildlife.

The Local Area:

Riverside Cottage offers the best of both worlds: our rural location is quiet and peaceful with very little light pollution, but we are only 4 minutes' drive away from bustling Ballyclare Town where you will find all desired amenities, including supermarkets, restaurants, takeaways, a library, church and pharmacy.

The cottage is surrounded by fields with sheep, horses and beautiful old trees – a great base for local walks!

An excellent base for exploring wider Northern Ireland too, Ballyclare is conveniently nestled between Belfast, our capital city and cultural centre less than 20 minutes’ drive South, and the famous Giants Causeway / Antrim Coast which is 55 minutes’ drive to the North. 20 minutes West is Lough Neagh, Europe’s largest fresh water lake. We are also close to Carrickfergus and Carrickfergus Castle (less than 10 minutes’ drive), which is one of Ireland’s best preserved Norman castles. For fans of the Game of Thrones series, we are also very well located to visit filming locations.
